Applies to: All plans (Self-Managed and Managed)
Before you start: You need to be logged in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com. Plan changes are made on the service itself, so have your account login (and your 2FA code, if you have set one up) ready.
You can change your plan within the same product line at any time from the client area. Upgrading gives you more websites, storage and resources straight away; downgrading reduces them. Your website files, databases and DNS records stay in place during the change.
How to change your plan
- Log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com.
- Go to Services -> My Services.
- Click the hosting service you want to change.
- Open the upgrade/downgrade option on the service page (look for the option labelled Upgrade/Downgrade or Change Plan).
- Choose your new plan from the list, then continue.
- Review the prorated amount shown, then confirm. If a payment is due, you will be taken to pay an invoice.
Result: Once the change is confirmed (and any invoice is paid), your new plan and its resource limits apply to your hosting account.
How proration works
When you upgrade mid-cycle, we charge only for the difference between your old and new plan for the time remaining in your current billing cycle. The client area calculates this prorated amount and shows it before you confirm.
When you downgrade, the lower price applies from your next billing cycle. We do not refund the difference for the current cycle as account credit unless support arranges it.
Plan prices are shown in euro, for example Self-Managed Lite at €3.99/mo or Managed Starter at €9/mo. VAT is not charged at checkout today, so there is no tax line to expect on the invoice.
What happens to your data and resource limits
- Your websites, files and databases stay put. Changing plan does not wipe your hosting account or move your site to a new server.
- Resource limits change to match the new plan. Upgrading raises your storage, website count and database limits; downgrading lowers them.
- Before you downgrade, check you fit inside the smaller plan. If your current usage (number of websites, total disk space, or number of databases) exceeds the new plan's limits, reduce it first to avoid hitting a limit. For example, Self-Managed Lite allows 1 website, 10 GB and 2 databases.
- DNS and email are unaffected. Your DNS records stay in the client area DNS manager, and your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace email seats are billed and managed separately from your hosting, so a hosting plan change does not touch them.
Switching between Self-Managed and Managed
The upgrade/downgrade tool changes plans within a line (Self-Managed-to-Self-Managed or Managed-to-Managed). To move from Self-Managed to Managed (which adds 24/7 monitoring, the uptime SLA and daily 30-day backups), or from Managed back to Self-Managed, start a chat with us and we will arrange it.
Troubleshooting this task
- I do not see an upgrade option. Make sure you opened the service itself under Services -> My Services, not the billing or domains area.
- The plan I want is not listed. Only plans in the same line appear. To switch between Self-Managed and Managed, contact support.
- My downgrade was blocked or my site broke after downgrading. You may be over the new plan's limits. Free up storage, remove extra databases or websites, then try again.
- I cannot pay the prorated invoice. You can pay by PayPal, card, bank transfer (SEPA) or cryptocurrency. See How to view and pay an invoice.
