Maxinodes offers two hosting lines: Self-Managed and Managed ("Hosting, handled"). The short version: choose Self-Managed if you are comfortable running your own site and want the lowest price; choose Managed if you want us to monitor, patch and back up everything for you and stand behind an uptime SLA. Both run on the same fast platform (cPanel on CloudLinux with LiteSpeed), so your website performs the same on either line — the difference is how much we do for you.
The quick answer
- Pick Self-Managed if you can manage your own updates and backups, want to keep costs down, and don't need a guaranteed uptime commitment.
- Pick Managed if you want hands-off hosting: we handle monitoring, updates and backups, and you get an uptime SLA with service credits. Either way, every plan is eligible for a 30-day money-back guarantee on your initial order (renewals are not covered).

Backups on both lines use JetBackup writing to Backblaze B2, and they include your mailboxes. Whichever line you choose, we recommend you also keep your own copy of anything important.

Self-Managed:

- Self-Managed Plus: 5 websites, 50 GB, 10 databases, 50 mailboxes, daily backup kept 7 days.
- Self-Managed Pro: unlimited websites, 100 GB, unlimited databases, unlimited mailboxes, daily backup kept 14 days.
Managed (24/7 monitoring, managed updates, daily 30-day off-site backups, uptime SLA):
- Starter: 1 website, 40 GB, 25 mailboxes, 99.9% uptime SLA, 1-hour response target.
- Growth: 5 websites, 80 GB, 100 mailboxes, 99.95% uptime SLA, 1-hour response target, named account manager.
- Business: unlimited websites, 200 GB, unlimited mailboxes, 99.99% uptime SLA, 1-hour response target.
- Enterprise: quoted per project, with terms agreed in a bespoke Order Form, including the response target (talk-to-sales quote).
Response targets are operational commitments for our first reply to a support request; they are separate from the uptime SLA and are not used to calculate service credits.
You can pay monthly, or for 12 or 24 months up front, on any plan. A new order on a 12 or 24-month term starts at a discounted first-term price, once per customer, and then renews for the same term at the plan's renewal price; monthly billing has no first-term price. Note on tax: prices are shown without VAT, and VAT is not currently charged at checkout. You pay by card or in cryptocurrency.
Things that work the same on both lines
A few features don't depend on which line you pick:
- Email: every plan includes mailboxes on your domain, with IMAP, POP3, webmail and spam filtering; they share your plan's storage. On Managed we also create them and set up your mail apps on request. For shared calendars, Teams or shared drives, Professional Email (Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, per seat) is available on any plan and is managed in the provider's admin console, not in cPanel. Guided setup and your email DNS records come with seats ordered through us — that follows the seats, not the hosting line. Add seats from the client area store, plus Managed email (€19/month including 3 users, then €5 per additional user) — on any hosting plan, or with no hosting at all.
- DNS is Maxinodes-managed, on our own nameservers. You manage your records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.) in the client area, not the cPanel zone editor. To use Maxinodes, point your domain at our nameservers, ns1.maxinodes.com and ns2.maxinodes.com, at your registrar.
- Free SSL (AutoSSL) is issued and renewed automatically on every plan. If you have a specific requirement, you can install your own purchased certificate on any plan.
Can I switch later?
Yes. You can move between lines or change plan size at any time: our team makes the change on request, prorated from what you actually paid for your current term. See How to upgrade or downgrade your plan for how the change is applied and billed. So you can start on Self-Managed and upgrade to Managed (or the other way) as your needs change.
Result: You know the difference — Self-Managed is cheaper and self-serve with no SLA; Managed costs more and does the work for you with a guaranteed SLA — and you can pick the right starting point.
