Before you start: You need to be able to log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com, and you need to know which domain you want to change.
Auto-renew tells us whether to renew your domain automatically before it expires. You change it in your client area under the domain itself — it takes about a minute.
Turn auto-renew on or off
- Log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com.
- Go to Domains -> My Domains.
- Click the domain you want to manage.
- Open the domain's management area and find the option labelled Auto Renew (also shown as the auto-renew status or toggle).
- Switch it on to renew automatically, or off to stop automatic renewal. Save your change if prompted.
Result: The domain's auto-renew status now shows your chosen setting. With auto-renew on, we will attempt the renewal before the expiry date; with it off, the domain will only renew if you renew it manually.
Note: The exact label and position of the auto-renew control can vary slightly by domain type. If you cannot find it, see Troubleshooting this task below or contact us.
Should auto-renew be on or off?
Leave auto-renew on if the domain matters to you — your live website, your email, or anything you do not want to lose. A lapsed domain can go through a grace period, then a more expensive redemption period, and can eventually be deleted, so auto-renew is the safest default.
Turn auto-renew off only if you have decided not to keep the domain, or you plan to transfer it away to another registrar. With it off, the domain will lapse at the end of its term unless you renew it yourself.
A few things worth knowing:
- Auto-renew needs a working payment method on file and a paid renewal invoice. We send renewal reminders, but you are responsible for making sure payment goes through. Automatic renewals use a PayPal billing agreement, while card, bank transfer (SEPA) and cryptocurrency invoices are paid manually each term.
- Turning auto-renew on or off does not charge you immediately — it only changes what happens as the domain approaches its expiry date.
- Domain registrations and renewals are generally non-refundable once processed, so check the setting that is right for you before a renewal runs.
Troubleshooting this task
- You cannot see the Auto Renew option: make sure you clicked into the specific domain under Domains -> My Domains, not your hosting service. The auto-renew control lives under the domain.
- The setting will not save: refresh the page and try again. If it still will not save, contact us with the domain name.
- You want to renew right now instead: turning auto-renew on does not renew today. To renew immediately, see How to renew a domain.
