Applies to: All plans (any domain registered through Maxinodes).
Before you start: You need your client area login (my.maxinodes.com) and access to the email address on the domain's registrant contact, as the new registrar usually sends a confirmation email there. The transfer itself is started at your new registrar, not with us — our job is to unlock the domain and give you the EPP/auth code.
To move a domain away from Maxinodes you do two things on our side: unlock the domain and copy its EPP/auth code. You then hand that code to your new registrar and they pull the domain across.
Step 1: Open your domain in the client area
- Log in at my.maxinodes.com.
- Go to client area -> Domains -> My Domains.
- Click the domain you want to transfer away to open its management page.
Step 2: Unlock the domain
A registrar lock (also called a transfer lock) blocks outbound transfers, so it must be off first.
- On the domain's management page, find the Registrar Lock option.
- Switch it to off / unlocked and save.
Result: The domain shows as unlocked and is now eligible to transfer.
Step 3: Get your EPP / auth code
The EPP code (also called the auth code or transfer key) is the password that authorises the transfer.
- On the same management page, open the option labelled EPP Code (sometimes shown as "Auth Code" or "Get EPP Code").
- Copy the code exactly as shown — it is case-sensitive and may contain symbols.
If you cannot find it, see How to find your domain's EPP / auth code.
Step 4: Start the transfer at your new registrar
- Log in to your new registrar and start a domain transfer for your domain name.
- When prompted, paste the EPP/auth code you copied in Step 3.
- Approve any confirmation email the new registrar sends to your registrant contact address.
Result: The transfer is now with the gaining registrar. Outbound transfers typically take a few days to complete, and the transfer usually adds one extra year of registration to the domain.
Before you leave: check your services
- Your DNS will move too. Once the domain leaves us, the Maxinodes-managed DNS zone you edit in your client area no longer applies. At your new provider you must recreate the records your site and email need — including an A record pointing to 185.185.49.198 for your website (and, if you want IPv6 visitors to reach it, an AAAA record pointing to 2a00:7c80:0:286:c::10, as our hosting node is dual-stack) and your Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace email records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC). See The DNS records your email needs.
- Keep your hosting separate. Transferring the domain away does not cancel your Maxinodes hosting, and cancelling hosting does not transfer the domain. They are separate services.
Troubleshooting this task
- The new registrar rejects the code: copy it again exactly — the EPP code is case-sensitive. Generate a fresh one if needed.
- The transfer will not start: confirm the domain is unlocked (Step 2) and is not within 60 days of being registered or of a previous transfer, as most registries block transfers during that window.
- You are not getting the confirmation email: check the registrant contact email on the domain is current under client area -> Domains -> My Domains. See How to update your domain contact / WHOIS info.
- The domain has WHOIS privacy enabled: some registrars require privacy to be switched off before a transfer. See Domain privacy / WHOIS protection explained.
