Applies to: All plans (anyone with a domain registered through Maxinodes).
Before you start: You will need your client area login (my.maxinodes.com) and the correct new contact details (name, organisation, address, email and phone). Use an email address you can access — ICANN may send a verification message to it.
You update your domain's contact and WHOIS information from your client area, not from cPanel. cPanel does not control your domain registration.
Update your contact details
- Log in at my.maxinodes.com.
- Go to Domains -> My Domains.
- Click the domain you want to edit to open its management page.
- Open the section labelled Contact Information (sometimes shown as "Edit Contact Information").
- Update the Registrant, Admin, Tech and Billing contacts as needed. You can usually apply one set of details to all four, or set each separately.
- Save your changes.
Result: Your new contact details are sent to the registrar. The public WHOIS record updates shortly afterwards (it can take a little while to propagate).
ICANN email verification
If you change the registrant name or email on certain domains (for example most generic TLDs like .com and .net), ICANN rules require you to verify the new email address. Watch for a verification email and click the link inside it before the deadline stated in the message.
If you do not verify in time, the domain can be suspended until you do, which takes your website and email offline. If you did not receive the email, check your spam folder, confirm the new email address was typed correctly, then contact us.
Good to know
- Domain privacy / WHOIS protection hides your personal details in the public WHOIS while keeping your real contact info on file with the registrar. See Domain privacy / WHOIS protection explained.
- Changing your contact details is not the same as changing nameservers or DNS records. Those live elsewhere — see the related articles below.
- Some TLDs lock a domain against transfer for a period after a registrant change, which can block an outbound transfer during that window. If you plan to transfer the domain away soon, transfer first, then update contacts.
Troubleshooting this task
- I don't see a Contact Information section — make sure the domain is registered with Maxinodes (domains registered elsewhere are managed at that registrar). Check under Domains -> My Domains.
- My changes did not appear in public WHOIS — allow time to propagate; if WHOIS protection is on, your personal details are intentionally hidden.
- The domain got suspended — this usually means the ICANN verification link was not clicked in time. Re-trigger the verification email or contact us and we will help.
