How to renew a domain

Applies to: All plans (any domain registered through Maxinodes).

Before you start: You need to be able to log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com, and you need a way to pay the renewal invoice. You can pay by PayPal, card, bank transfer (SEPA) or cryptocurrency.

To renew a domain manually, you generate a renewal invoice from your client area and pay it. The renewal is applied once payment clears.

Renew your domain

  1. Log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com.
  2. Go to Domains -> My Domains.
  3. Find the domain you want to renew. Its expiry date is shown in the list.
  4. Open the domain (click it or use the Manage / options menu) and choose the option labelled Renew Domain. You can usually pick how many years to add.
  5. Confirm the renewal to generate an invoice.
  6. Pay the invoice by PayPal, card, bank transfer (SEPA) or cryptocurrency.

Result: Once the payment clears, the renewal is sent to the registrar and your domain's expiry date moves forward by the number of years you bought. You can confirm the new date under Domains -> My Domains.

The renewal and expiry windows

A domain does not stop working the moment it expires, but the windows that follow get more expensive and more risky the longer you wait. Renew before the expiry date wherever possible.

  • Before expiry: Renew at the normal price. This is always the cheapest and safest option.
  • Grace period (just after expiry): A short window in which you can usually still renew at the standard price. The domain may stop resolving during this time, so your site and email can go down.
  • Redemption period: The domain has lapsed further and can only be restored by paying a redemption fee, which is typically much higher than a normal renewal.
  • Deletion: After redemption, the domain is released and anyone can register it.

A note on refunds

Domain renewal fees are non-refundable once the renewal has been processed with the registrar. This is the same as a new registration — once a year (or more) has been added to the domain, the fee cannot be returned. Please double-check the domain name and the number of years before you confirm.

Troubleshooting this task

  • I do not see a Renew option. Check that the domain is actually registered through Maxinodes under Domains -> My Domains. A domain registered elsewhere is renewed at that other registrar, not here.
  • The expiry date has not updated. The new date only applies after the renewal invoice is paid and the registrar confirms it; allow a short time and refresh the page.
  • The domain has already lapsed. If it is past expiry, the action and fee may be a redemption/restore rather than a standard renewal — contact us before paying if you are unsure.
