Applies to: All plans
Before you start: You need your client area login (my.maxinodes.com) and the domain must be registered with Maxinodes.
Your EPP code (also called the auth code, authorisation code, or transfer key) lives in your client area under the domain. It is a short, password-like string that proves you own the domain, and you hand it to a new registrar when you want to transfer the domain away from Maxinodes.
What the EPP / auth code is for
The EPP code is a security key for domain transfers. A registrar will not move a domain without it. You will need it when you:
- Transfer a domain away from Maxinodes to another provider, or
- Are asked for it by a new registrar during their transfer process.
You do not need the EPP code for everyday tasks like editing DNS records, renewing, or changing contact details. Those are done elsewhere in the client area.
Find your EPP / auth code
- Log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com.
- Go to Domains -> My Domains.
- Click the domain you want the code for.
- In the domain management menu, open the option labelled Get EPP Code (sometimes shown as Auth Code or Transfer Key).
- Copy the code exactly as shown, including any special characters.
Result: You now have the EPP / auth code to give to the gaining registrar.
Good to know
- Unlock the domain first. A transfer also needs the domain unlocked. You can manage the registrar lock from the same domain page in the client area.
- Copy it exactly. EPP codes are case-sensitive and often contain symbols. A single wrong character will cause the transfer to fail.
- Codes can expire or rotate. If a transfer is rejected as an invalid code, return to the client area and fetch a fresh one.
- Privacy may hide it. If WHOIS protection is on, you may need it switched off to retrieve the code or complete the transfer; you can re-enable privacy afterwards.
Troubleshooting this task
- No "Get EPP Code" option shown — confirm the domain is registered with Maxinodes (not just hosted here). Domains registered elsewhere get their code from that registrar.
- The code does not work at the new registrar — fetch a fresh code, check the domain is unlocked, and make sure you copied it with no leading or trailing spaces.
- You cannot reach the domain page — see How to log in to your client area.
