Applies to: All plans
Maxinodes offers two hosting lines: Self-Managed and Managed ("Hosting, handled"). The short version: choose Self-Managed if you are comfortable running your own site and want the lowest price; choose Managed if you want us to monitor, patch and back up everything for you and stand behind an uptime SLA. Both run on the same fast platform (cPanel on CloudLinux with LiteSpeed), so your website performs the same on either line — the difference is how much we do for you.
The quick answer
- Pick Self-Managed if you can manage your own updates and backups, want to keep costs down, and don't need a guaranteed uptime commitment.
- Pick Managed if you want hands-off hosting: we handle monitoring, updates and backups, and you get an uptime SLA with service credits. Either way, every plan is eligible for a 30-day money-back guarantee on your initial order (renewals are not covered).
What each line includes
| Self-Managed | Managed (handled) | |
|---|---|---|
| Support | Email + ticket (this Help Center and live chat) | 24/7 monitoring and on-call |
| Updates/patching | You manage your own site | Managed updates and patching |
| Uptime SLA | None (no service credits) | Yes, with service credits (99.9% to 99.99%) |
| Backups | Self-restore in cPanel (JetBackup) | Daily, kept 30 days, off-site |
| Migration | Free | Free |
| DDoS mitigation | Standard platform protection | Included |
| Account manager | — | On Growth and up |
| Money-back guarantee | 30-day (initial order) | 30-day (initial order) |
Backups on both lines use JetBackup writing to Backblaze B2. Whichever line you choose, we recommend you also keep your own copy of anything important.
Prices
Self-Managed:
- Self-Managed Lite — €3.99/mo: 1 website, 10 GB SSD, 2 databases, weekly self-restore backup.
- Self-Managed Plus — €7.99/mo: 5 websites, 50 GB, 10 databases, daily backup kept 7 days.
- Self-Managed Pro — €14.99/mo: unlimited websites, 100 GB, unlimited databases, daily backup kept 14 days.
Managed (24/7 monitoring, managed updates, daily 30-day off-site backups, uptime SLA):
- Starter — €9/mo: 1 website, 40 GB, 99.9% uptime SLA, 1-hour response target.
- Growth — €19/mo: 5 websites, 80 GB, 99.95% uptime SLA, 1-hour response target, named account manager.
- Business — €39/mo: unlimited websites, 200 GB, 99.99% uptime SLA, 15-minute response target.
- Enterprise — from €149/mo: dedicated Worldstream bare-metal, 1 TB+ storage, 99.99% uptime SLA (99.995% by agreement in a bespoke Order Form), 15-minute response target (talk-to-sales quote).
Response targets are operational commitments for our first reply to a support request; they are separate from the uptime SLA and are not used to calculate service credits.
You can pay Monthly, Annual or Biennial on any plan, plus Triennial on Self-Managed. Paying for a longer term lowers your effective monthly rate — annual saves about 12.5% on Self-Managed and about 16.7% ("2 months free") on Managed, biennial about 25%, and triennial about 33% (Self-Managed). There are no promo codes; the discount is built into the longer-cycle price.
Note on tax: prices are shown without VAT, and VAT is not currently charged at checkout. You can pay by PayPal, card, bank transfer (SEPA) or cryptocurrency.
Things that work the same on both lines
A few features don't depend on which line you pick:
- Email is Professional Email — resold Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, per seat — and is managed in the Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace admin console, not in cPanel. There is no cPanel webmail. On Managed plans we include guided email setup and configure your email DNS records for you. Add seats from the client area store, or use the Add Professional Email add-on (about €4.20/seat) on any hosting plan.
- DNS is Maxinodes-managed, on our own nameservers. You manage your records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.) in the client area, not the cPanel zone editor. To use Maxinodes, point your domain at our nameservers, ns1.maxinodes.com and ns2.maxinodes.com, at your registrar.
- Free SSL (AutoSSL) is issued and renewed automatically on every plan. If you have a specific requirement, you can install your own purchased certificate on any plan.
Can I switch later?
Yes. You can move between lines or change plan size at any time from Services -> My Services in your client area. See How to upgrade or downgrade your plan for how the change is applied and billed. So you can start on Self-Managed and upgrade to Managed (or the other way) as your needs change.
Result: You know the difference — Self-Managed is cheaper and self-serve with no SLA; Managed costs more and does the work for you with a guaranteed SLA — and you can pick the right starting point.
