Applies to: All plans
There are two ways to have email on your own domain at Maxinodes:
-
Mailboxes included with your hosting plan. Every plan comes with mailboxes on your domain, such as
info@yourdomain.com, that you use in webmail or in any mail app over IMAP or POP3. They cover everyday email for you and your team, at no extra cost. - Professional Email: Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. For teams that work in shared calendars, Teams or Google Meet and shared drives, that need compliance tools, or that want their mail kept apart from the server their website runs on. We set it up and run it for you, with the subscription in your own name.
A domain's incoming mail goes to one place, set by its MX record, so each domain uses one of the two. You can start with the included mailboxes and move to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace later: when you order the seats through us, we move your mail across free of charge.

Mailboxes included with your hosting plan
| Plan | Mailboxes | Maximum size per mailbox |
|---|---|---|
| Self-Managed Lite | 10 | 5 GB |
| Self-Managed Plus | 50 | 10 GB |
| Self-Managed Pro | Unlimited | 10 GB |

| Managed Growth | 100 | 10 GB |
| Managed Business | Unlimited | 25 GB |
- Mailboxes share your plan's storage. Mail counts toward your plan's disk space, together with your website files and databases. A mailbox starts at 1 GB, and you can raise it up to your plan's maximum.
- Webmail and mail apps. Read your mail in the browser with webmail, or add the mailbox to Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or your phone over IMAP or POP3, on encrypted connections.
- Spam is filtered into Junk. Known spam sources are refused before a message is accepted. Everything else is scored, and likely spam is filed into the mailbox's Junk folder.
- Authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. When we create your domain's DNS zone on our nameservers, we add these records for you, together with the MX record that brings your mail here.
- Forwarders. Forward any address on your domain to another address, whether or not it has a mailbox of its own.
- Who does what. On Managed plans we create mailboxes, set up your mail apps, reset mailbox passwords and troubleshoot on request. On Self-Managed plans you manage mailboxes yourself in the client area or cPanel, and we help with platform and delivery faults. See What our support covers (Self-Managed vs Managed).
- For everyday mail, not bulk mail. Newsletters and other bulk mail need a dedicated sending service. The sending limits are in Mailbox and sending limits.
- Your mailboxes belong to your hosting account. If you cancel the hosting, the service is suspended on the cancellation date and your mailboxes stop working. 14 days later the account is deleted for good, with all its mail. Within those 14 days we can still restore it or give you a copy, but move or export your mail before the cancellation date. See How to cancel your hosting.
Already have email on this domain? Tell us before you switch your nameservers or cancel your old hosting. We check where your mail is and move your mailboxes and mail with you, free on every plan. See How to move your existing email to Maxinodes.
Professional Email: Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
Professional Email is Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace on your own domain, bought per seat (one seat = one mailbox). Every order has two lines, and both arrive on one invoice:
- The seats: the Microsoft or Google subscription itself, which we take out in your name and charge on at exactly what we pay for it. Check the current seat prices in the client area store.
- Managed email: €19/month including 3 users, then €5 per additional user. This is our fee for running the tenant: setup, migration, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, adding and removing people, password resets and delivery problems.
If you order your seats through us, you also get guided email setup and free migration, we configure your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for you, and we administer the account on an ongoing basis, from an ordinary administrator account on your tenant that you can remove at any time. This follows the seats, not your hosting plan, and you can buy seats from us with no hosting at all. If your seats came from elsewhere, you set email up yourself (we are happy to point you in the right direction). How to order: How to add Professional Email to your hosting.
Where each thing is managed
| Task | Where you do it |
|---|---|
| Create and manage the mailboxes included with your plan | Your service page in the client area -> Email Accounts, or cPanel -> Email Accounts |
| Forward mail to another address | Your service page -> Email Forwarders, or cPanel -> Forwarders |
| Read mail in the browser | The Webmail button on your service page, or webmail.yourdomain.com
|
| Manage your DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) | Client area DNS manager (Maxinodes-managed), not the cPanel zone editor |
| Buy Professional Email seats | Client area store (the Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace group, plus Managed email) |
| Create and manage Professional Email mailboxes | Your Microsoft 365 admin centre or Google Workspace admin console |
How your email connects to your domain
- Your domain points at our nameservers — ns1.maxinodes.com and ns2.maxinodes.com.
- When we create your domain's DNS zone, we add the records for the mailboxes included with your plan: the MX record (
mx.maxinodes.com), SPF, DKIM, DMARC and the records mail apps use to find their settings. If your domain's mail was already with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another provider at that point, we copy that provider's records instead, so your mail keeps arriving where it is. - For Professional Email, you replace our mail records with the values from your Microsoft 365 admin centre or Google Workspace setup wizard (we do this for you when you order the seats through us). Replace them rather than adding to them: two sets of MX records would split your mail between two places.
If your domain's DNS is hosted somewhere else, you add the records there. The values, including a record sheet for the included mailboxes, are in The DNS records your email needs (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
Bring your own email
You do not have to use either option. Bring-your-own email is welcome — if you already use another provider, just point your domain's MX (and related SPF/DKIM/DMARC) records at them in the client area DNS manager. Your website stays on Maxinodes; your mail stays wherever you like. See Using your own email provider (BYO email).
