Applies to: All plans (Google Workspace Professional Email seats).
Before you start: You need a Google Workspace seat already ordered in your client area (the Add Professional Email add-on or a per-seat Google Workspace product), the Admin console sign-in details from your welcome email, and access to your client area DNS manager to add the verification and mail records.
This article walks you through your first Google Workspace mailbox after you order a seat: sign in to the Admin console, create the user, and verify your domain so mail can flow.
On Managed? We do this for you. We create your first user, verify the domain and configure your mail DNS (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) as part of your guided email setup and free migration. You can skip the steps below — just reply to your onboarding chat with the mailboxes you want.
1. Sign in to the Admin console
- Open admin.google.com in your browser.
- Sign in with the admin account from your Maxinodes welcome email (it ends in your own domain, for example
you@yourdomain.com). - If prompted, accept the terms and set a recovery option.
Result: You land on the Google Workspace Admin console home.
2. Create your first user (mailbox)
- In the Admin console, go to the section labelled Directory, then Users.
- Select the option labelled Add new user.
- Enter the first name, last name and the username (the part before the @). This username becomes the email address, for example
info@yourdomain.com. - Set a password (or let Google generate one) and finish.
Result: The mailbox exists in Google Workspace. You can sign in to it at mail.google.com (Gmail). It will not send or receive external mail until your domain is verified and your mail DNS records are live.
3. Verify your domain
Google needs to confirm you own your domain before it activates mail. You do this by adding a verification record in your client area, not in cPanel.
- In the Admin console, open the option to verify your domain (Google usually prompts you, or look under Account -> Domains).
- Choose the TXT record verification method and copy the verification value Google shows you.
- In your client area, go to Domains -> My Domains, open your domain and find the DNS manager (or use manage DNS records in your service). Add a TXT record at the root (
@) with the value Google gave you. - Return to the Admin console and select Verify.
Result: Google confirms the domain. DNS changes are usually live within minutes but can take up to 24-48 hours depending on TTL.
Important: Always copy the exact verification value from your own Google Workspace Admin console. We cannot give you a specific value — it is unique to your account.
4. Turn on mail (add your MX and email records)
Verifying the domain proves ownership; you still need the mail records so email actually flows. Add your MX, SPF, DKIM and (optionally) DMARC records in the client area DNS manager. The exact values come from your Google Workspace Admin console.
See How to add Google Workspace mail DNS records for the full record list and where to find each value.
Result: Once the MX record is live, your mailbox sends and receives external email.
Troubleshooting this task
-
Cannot sign in to admin.google.com — use the admin address from your Maxinodes welcome email (it is on your own domain, not a
@gmail.comaddress). Reset the password from the Google sign-in page if needed. - Verification keeps failing — confirm you added the TXT record in the client area (not the cPanel zone editor, which does not control live DNS here), check there are no typos, and wait for DNS to propagate before clicking Verify again.
- Mailbox works in Gmail but no external mail arrives — your MX record is not live yet. Add the Google MX record in the client area DNS manager.
- Not sure which records to add — follow the dedicated DNS article linked above, or on Managed let us handle it.
