How to point your domain to Maxinodes (set your nameservers)

Before you start: You need login access to whatever registrar holds your domain (where you bought it), and your two Maxinodes nameservers (below). You do not change nameservers in your client area or in cPanel — you change them at your registrar.

To point your domain at Maxinodes, set its nameservers at your registrar to our two nameservers:

  • ns1.maxinodes.com
  • ns2.maxinodes.com

Once your domain uses these nameservers, your DNS is served by Maxinodes, on our own nameservers, and you manage your records — A, CNAME, MX, TXT, and so on — in the client area, not in the cPanel zone editor.

When to change nameservers vs individual records

  • Change your nameservers when you want Maxinodes to handle all DNS for the domain. This is the simplest setup: a DNS zone is created automatically for your hosting service, and everything is managed in one place. The zone we create contains both the A and the AAAA records for your domain, www, cpanel and ftp, so your site is served over both IPv4 and IPv6 (dual-stack) without you adding anything. This is what we recommend for most customers.
  • Don't change your nameservers — edit individual records instead when your DNS must stay at another provider (for example, your registrar or an existing Cloudflare account you control). In that case, leave the nameservers where they are and point only the records you need: an A record to 185.185.49.198 for your website, plus your email records. Our hosting node is also reachable over IPv6, so you can optionally add an AAAA record to 2a00:7c80:0:286:c::10 if you want IPv6 visitors to reach your site directly.

Steps

  1. Log in to the account at the registrar where your domain is registered.
  2. Find the domain and open its nameserver settings (often labelled Nameservers, DNS settings, or Manage DNS). The exact wording depends on your registrar.
  3. Choose the option for custom nameservers (sometimes "Use my own nameservers" or "Custom DNS").
  4. Replace the existing nameservers with exactly:
    • ns1.maxinodes.com
    • ns2.maxinodes.com
  5. Remove any other nameservers listed, so only these two remain.
  6. Save your changes.

Result: Your domain is now pointed at Maxinodes. DNS changes propagate across the internet, which usually takes a few hours but can take up to 24–48 hours to complete everywhere.

If Maxinodes is your domain registrar (you registered or transferred the domain through us), you can set the nameservers from Domains -> My Domains in your client area instead.

After it propagates

Troubleshooting this task

  • My site still loads the old host. DNS hasn't finished propagating yet, or you're seeing a cached copy. Wait, then try again from another network or device.
  • My email stopped working after the change. Switching nameservers replaces your old DNS, so your email records must be re-created here. Add your MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records in the client area DNS manager. The exact values come from the Microsoft 365 admin centre or the Google Workspace setup wizard.
  • The registrar rejected the nameservers. Make sure there are no typos or trailing spaces, that you removed all the old entries, and that only the two names above remain.
  • I can only enter "glue" or IP addresses. Most registrars accept the hostnames as-is. If yours insists on something else, contact us and we'll help.
