Applies to: All plans (Self-Managed and Managed).
Before you start: You need access to your Maxinodes client area at my.maxinodes.com. If you can already get into cPanel and just want to change the password, you can do that inside cPanel instead (see the second method below).
There are two ways to set a new cPanel password. If you have forgotten it or cannot log in, reset it from your client area. If you are already logged into cPanel and simply want to change it, do it under your cPanel preferences.
Note: This is the password for cPanel (your hosting control panel), which is separate from your client area password (the billing portal at my.maxinodes.com). It is also separate from your email password — mailboxes are Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and are managed in their own admin console, not in cPanel.
Method 1 — Reset from your client area (recommended)
Use this if you have forgotten your cPanel password or cannot log in.
- Log in to your client area at my.maxinodes.com.
- Go to Services -> My Services.
- Click the hosting service you want to manage to open its service page.
- On the service page, find the option labelled Change Password (in the management actions for the service).
- Enter a new strong password, confirm it, and save.
Result: Your cPanel password is updated immediately. Use it the next time you open cPanel directly at
https://yourdomain/cpanelor on the server hostname on port 2083.
Tip: You usually do not need the password at all for day-to-day use. From the same service page you can use Log in to cPanel to open cPanel by single sign-on, with no password required.
Method 2 — Change it inside cPanel
Use this if you are already logged into cPanel and want to set a new password.
- Log in to cPanel (via Log in to cPanel from your service page, or directly at
https://yourdomain/cpanel). - Open the section labelled Preferences -> Password & Security.
- Enter your current password, then your new password twice. The built-in strength meter will tell you if it is strong enough.
- Click the option labelled Change your password now to save.
Result: Your cPanel password changes straight away. Any active cPanel session may ask you to log in again with the new password.
Choosing a strong password
- Use at least 12 characters, mixing upper and lower case, numbers and symbols.
- Do not reuse your client area password or any email password.
- Store it in a password manager rather than writing it down.
For extra protection, you can also enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on both your client area and cPanel.
Troubleshooting this task
- The new password is rejected as too weak. Add more length and a mix of character types until the strength meter is satisfied.
- You still cannot log in after resetting. Make sure you are entering the password at the correct screen — cPanel, not the client area — and that any saved/autofilled old password has been cleared from your browser.
- You have lost access to your client area too. Use the password reset on the client area login page at my.maxinodes.com first, then come back and reset the cPanel password from your service page.
- FTP/SFTP stopped working after the change. Changing the main cPanel password also changes the main FTP login. Update the password in your FTP client to match.
